Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (Sept. 12) – It was a tough decision, but one Channin Tankersley made confidently last weekend.
“We were going to head up to Missouri and Nebraska for three races, but with questionable weather on Friday and our plan to run more ASCS National races to end this season, we decided to stay home and focus on the future,” he said. “Friday’s race ended up raining out, too.”
The Highlands, Texas, native has nearly a dozen and a half races remaining on his schedule, including a bunch with the premier 360 sprint car tour. It starts this Saturday when he continues his quest with the ASCS Gulf South Region at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas.
With two ASCS Gulf South races remaining, Tankersley is seventh in the standings and only 34 points out of sixth place. However, Royal Purple Raceway isn’t his best track.
“I think that’s my worst track ever,” he said. “I just never seem to have much luck there.”
In three races at the 3/8th-mile track this season, Tankersley has finished last in the feature twice and failed to make it the other time.
“The first time we had an engine issue and weren’t able to start the heat race or the B Main,” he said. “The next time we were caught up in an accident on the first lap when a guy spun out right in front of me at the start. The last time we had another issue when the car wouldn’t fire when we were pushed off for the feature.
“So I hope we can get through Saturday night and everything runs and we don’t crash.”
After Saturday, Tankersley plans on traveling more to conclude the season and race in some premier events throughout the Midwest and South.
