The Inside Line: At the DIRTcar Nationals

Chris Dolack, Kellen Burns and I road-tripped from North Carolina to Daytona Beach, Fla., yesterday. It was a little less than an eight-hour drive to our condo. On the way we drove through South Carolina, which was the 33rd state I’ve been to. However, between the alleged drug use of a couple interesting characters in the bathroom of the gas station we stopped at and the nasty odor we encountered along the way, I was cool with my South Carolina experience being only an hour or two.

We’re in a great condo with a cool view of the beach, which is located about a half hour from Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville — site of the 41st annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit.

We’re at the track buttoning up last-minute details and setting up the press room. It’s a sunny day here and the weather outlook is solid. The only real chance of rain is this weekend and hopefully that keeps pushing off. We’ve got 12 consecutive days of racing here with five sprint car events this week from Wednesday through Sunday. I can’t wait to see some 410 racing at its finest here at this fast half-mile oval.
