The Inside Line: Season opener washed out

After getting in two nights of sprint car racing at the 41st annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment, last night was rained out. It was supposed to be the season opener for the World of Outlaws and now that moment has shifted to tonight here at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla.

It’s fairly cloudy and very humid today to accompany the 80-degree temperature. We should be able to get this show in tonight and then Friday’s rain out will resume on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. We also have the regular race slated for Sunday evening, so it’ll be a long day.

We’re in the middle of 12 consecutive days of racing down here and everything is flowing really well. Other than the rain last night, it has been a great week in Florida and I really look forward to staying here for another week. It’s also really neat to see some of the NASCAR stars come out to the track this week while they prepare for racing at nearby Daytona.

Two nights ago we had five-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson hang out with the Kasey Kahne Racing teams. I was able to talk to Johnson for a few minutes and did a quick video interview between a couple heat races for the modifieds. He was very generous with his time and open to approach.

Tony Stewart and Dave Blaney have also been racing with the sprint cars most of this week, while Kenny Schrader, Kenny Wallace and Austin Dillon have competed with the modifieds. This really is quite the event and I encourage everyone to make a trip to the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit.
