Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (June 5, 2023) – Kaleb Johnson is coming off one of his strongest weekends of the season.
Johnson posted a career-best 410ci winged sprint car result at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday with an eighth-place showing. He followed that with a second podium of the season at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday.
“I wish we could qualify a little bit better at Knoxville, but I feel we’re getting the car better for later in the night when the track slicks off,” he said. “We’re still kind of struggling at Huset’s. I’m still not completely comfortable yet and we have some things to work on, but I’ll take a third-place finish any day of the week.”
The action at Knoxville Raceway began with Johnson qualifying 16th quickest. He then won a heat race from the pole position to garner the 10th starting spot in the A Main.
“I felt pretty comfortable in the feature,” he said. “I ran around the bottom for most of the race. It’s been so slick the top has been so far around. I felt pretty comfortable and made some headway.”
Johnson ventured to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. He timed in 11th quickest and won a heat race to advance into the feature redraw. Luck was on Johnson’s side as he plucked the No. 1 to garner the pole position in the main event.
“I didn’t get the greatest start and was second right away,” he said. “We’ve been battling the car off the corner. It’s just been really tight. I will say we did get the car a little better. There’s certain laps it leans on the right rear heavily and makes it uncomfortable. We’ve been working on that the last few weeks. That just takes time and laps.”
The third-place finish was Johnson’s fourth top five of the season.
This week is a busy one for Johnson, who plans to race on Tuesday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., with the High Limit Sprint Car Series before joining the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series on Friday and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway. He will then cap the weekend with a race on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway.
