Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (May 13, 2024) – Jordon Mallett garnered his first top-five outing of the season last Saturday at Riverside International Speedway.
Mallett moved forward a handful of positions in both a heat race and the main event during the Hooker Hood Classic. His run from 10th to fifth in the A Main was the second-most positions gained.
“I was super pleased overall and where we had the race car,” he said. “It was a track position thing and once it started to get where we could move around we were one of the ones moving forward.”
Mallett worked his way from eighth to fourth place in a heat race.
“We weren’t dealt a very good hand with our draw,” he said. “The heat race was tough. We raced our way through it, but we didn’t get one lap in before there was a red flag. We had avoided most of that situation. Then we didn’t get the next lap in without another red flag. That caused me to get into another car. It was one of those heat races where it was a rough go. We suffered a little bit of front end damage so we were just okay. I was glad we were able to finish given the circumstances.”
Mallett started the feature on the outside of the fifth row.
“It took the track a little bit of time to come in as the bottom was too good early,” he said. “The top was really treacherous and rough and choppy, just really tough to run. Finally midway through the race the bottom got slowed down enough I felt we could make the top work. We got up there and started driving through the chop and the rough. We figured out a line that worked for us and we made it to fifth, which was good.”
Mallett will take this weekend off for a sponsorship engagement before returning to action for the USCS Series Speedweek, which features races May 24 at Clayhill Motorsports Park in Atwood, Tenn.; May 25 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.; May 26 at Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Ark.; May 27 at Pine Ridge Speedway in Baldwyn, Miss.; May 30 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.; May 31 at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss.; and June 1 at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Miss.
