Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (June 17, 2024) – Kaleb Johnson pieced together another consistent weekend as he heads into arguably the biggest week of his season.
Johnson hustled from 12th to fourth in a Dennis Gainey owned 360ci winged sprint car on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, before he scored a sixth-place result on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway.
It marked Johnson’s sixth straight top 10 to open the season at the high-banked track, where he leads the championship standings by 37 points.
“It was a good, consistent night,” he said. “We qualified good and had a good run in the heat race. Then we had a good draw for the feature.”
Johnson qualified third quickest and advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race. He pulled the No. 4 during the feature redraw to line up on the outside of the second row in the main event.
“I got a little tripped up on the cushion a few times,” he said. “I worked my way back up to fourth. The restart with two laps to go didn’t fall in my favor. I made a mistake on the last lap trying to slide Chase Randall back for fourth. I didn’t have the momentum and it cost me a spot. All in all, it was a good night to roll the car into the trailer.”
Johnson was also efficient on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where he timed in 17th quickest and won a heat race. He capped the night with a rally from 12th to fourth place. It was the third-most positions gained.
“It ended well,” he said. “We just didn’t qualify the greatest and that hurt us in the end. We had a good heat race as we started on the pole and walked away with it. We were a little tight at the beginning of the feature. The race car got better as the race went on. I was able to bide my time and pass cars when I needed. The top was super tricky and I was able to make it work. I got a couple of lucky breaks and by the end of it I came out fourth.”
Four huge nights of World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series racing at Huset’s Speedway are on tap with the $100,000-to-win Huset’s Hustle on Wednesday and Thursday and the $250,000-to-win BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals presented by MENARDS on Friday and Saturday.
“You always get excited to run with the Outlaws, but this year we have a little more confidence,” Johnson said. “I think the goal is to make all four features. It’s a good opportunity to race against the best in the world. I feel pretty confident. Consistency and good runs at Huset’s have boosted my confidence this year.”
