Inside Line Promotions – COLUMBUS, Miss. (July 8, 2024) – Derek Hagar earned his seventh podium result in his last eight races last Wednesday during a USCS Series event at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

Hagar finished where he started – second – in a heat race before he won the dash from the pole position.

“We really struggled all night to kind of get the speed we needed,” he said. “The race track put new dirt on it so it holds moisture a lot longer than in years past. Once you get going it’s hard to get by a car. We luckily made the dash and drew the No. 1 so that put us on the pole for the dash. The car felt great and we won that.”

Hagar led the first few laps of the main event.

“Everything felt good the first four or five laps around the top,” he said. “All of a sudden the bottom came in. I was way too tight to run down there. I tried to make the middle work and the top work, do what I could, but we ultimately finished third. I couldn’t hold the bottom like they were. Every lap they kept pulling further and further from me until we got to traffic.

“Brady Baker passed me on an early restart on the bottom. I could tell I was getting more free up top. Once I moved down I had to slow up so much. It was burning the brakes off the car to keep it going. We made the bottom work for a couple of laps and almost got the lead back in traffic. I was running third and pulled up beside both of them, but a lapped car blocked me and right after that a caution came out. We never really got into thick traffic after that.”

The third-place result was his ninth top five of the season.

Hagar plans to race either this Saturday at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Miss., with the ASCS Hurricane Area Super Sprints or Friday at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, Ga., and Saturday at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga., with the USCS Series.

“The weather looks good at both of them so it depends on what work is like this week,” he said. “One is seven hours from the house and the other is three hours so we’ll make a decision later this week.”
