Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (July 8, 2024) – Trey Starks is set to make his final 410ci winged sprint car start at Skagit Speedway in more than the next month this Saturday.

Starks is leading the championship standings at the high-banked oval by 54 points thanks to a division-best three wins and five top fives.

“We wrecked our primary car the opening night of Dirt Cup,” he said. “Since then the chassis has been repaired and we’re rebuilding the car from top to bottom so everything will be nice and fresh. I’m excited to get back in the 410 and back to Square One on that program after some chaos lately. We’ve had speed, but haven’t had much luck the last couple of weeks so hopefully we can reset and get back to where we need to be.”

Starks competed in a 360ci winged sprint car race at Skagit Speedway last Saturday. He set quick time during qualifying before advancing from fourth to second place in a heat race. That moved him into the feature redraw, in which Starks drew the highest number – eight – to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

“Qualifying was a little odd,” he said. “We were set to go out around 18th out of 26 cars. For some reason our transponder didn’t register so I had to go back out at the end. The track may or may not have slowed down, but for having to go out at the end and going quick time was a good feeling. We got to second in the heat race and then unfortunately we drew the worst number we could in the feature redraw.

“In the feature, we worked our way up to third by about halfway. We had our sights on first and second. I think we were all on the same straightaway with a handful of lapped cars between each one of us. I may or may not have been able to get there without a caution, but unfortunately with about five laps or so to go we had an engine problem that ended our night. It’s not ideal going into the Summer Nationals at the end of the month, but that’s how it goes sometimes.”

Starks was credited with a 17th-place finish. It snapped a three-race 360 sprint car winning streak at Skagit Speedway for Starks, who now holds a 53-point advantage in the championship standings.
