Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (July 15, 2024) – Tim Estenson captured a pair of top-10 results last weekend.
The action began on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., where Estenson used a late restart to power from third to win a Midwest Sprint Touring Series 410 Sprint Cars heat race. That made him the high-points driver and earned a spot in the dash. Estenson continued forward in the dash as he maneuvered from sixth to fourth place.
“I think it was really good, especially at a place where I’ve struggled at,” he said. “I was lucky to get that yellow in the heat race and I was able to move around and get momentum. The car was really good all night. I think the biggest thing that helped was that I was able to capitalize on the starts in the heat race and dash.
“In the feature I stayed up top too long. They had reworked the track a bit and the bottom turned out to be the best place early. I dropped back to eighth or ninth and worked my way back to sixth.”
Estenson’s sixth-place result marked his 10th top 10 of the season. It also propelled him into the lead in the Midwest Sprint Touring Series 410 Sprint Cars championship standings.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, where Estenson qualified eighth quickest. A fourth-place finish in a heat race ranked him ninth in overall points to miss the feature redraw by only one position. That started him on the inside of the fifth row in the main event.
“I watched the first heat race and the bottom was where it was at,” he said. “It shifted by my heat race. I didn’t get the best start and lost some momentum. I tried to stick the bottom and it didn’t work out. I was playing catch up from there.
“In the feature we were decent at the beginning, but struggled as the race went on. I was trying everything, slowing up my entry, trying to drive it harder, moving my wing back. It was one of those deals where it was disappointing, but at the same time we had some luck to move up to second in points.”
The 10th-place result helped guide Estenson into second place in the Huset’s Speedway championship standings. His six top 10s at the track this season rank second most.
Estenson plans to race this Thursday at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn., and Friday and Saturday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., with the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association and the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series.
“Those races are close to home so it’ll be fun,” he said. “We’re working hard in the shop to get prepared for this three-day weekend and hopefully we can capitalize with some wins.”
