Inside Line Promotions - MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 20, 2013) - Last weekend was a mixed return for Bill Rose.
After taking nearly a month off to heal from a broken left arm, Rose competed with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series as it made its first visit of the season to Pennsylvania. While a couple of low qualifying spots put Rose behind from the start each night, his arm felt normal during the latest test.
"Actually the arm feels great," he said. "It doesn't hurt at all. I was kind of curious about how it was going to work at Lincoln, but it feels great."
Rose returned to action on Thursday at the Gettysburg Clash, which had been delayed by rain on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa. Since Bill Rose Racing driver David Gravel recorded a lot of success while Rose was on the mend, he decided to try Gravel's setup.
"I wanted to try that out and see how that works because David had been doing so well in my car," Rose said. "I wanted to try it and get back in the swing of things as best as I can. It just doesn't work for me. I just drive a car different."
Rose qualified 39th at Lincoln Speedway and 40th on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway, putting him at the back of his heat race both nights.
"When you go to Pennsylvania and you get behind the eight ball in qualifying, it just doesn't make for a good night of racing," he said.
Rose didn't advance through the heat either night and was relegated to the C Main, where he finished each night. It was a sour return to the seat, but the silver lining is that his arm didn't suffer any setbacks.
"That's a bummer right now," Rose said of the results. "But everything's coming together and everything will be alright."
Gravel finished 17th both nights, including a Last Chance Showdown win at Lincoln Speedway.
"It was a good, solid run for Pennsylvania," Rose said.
Rose, Gravel and the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series were rained out on Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway and on Sunday at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y.
They are scheduled to make up the event at Orange County Fair Speedway on Monday with the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Classic on Tuesday at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J. The week will conclude with the Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., on Friday.
