Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 15, 2024) – Trey Starks left Texas on a positive note after he rallied for a top 15 last Saturday at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track, where he filled in for Scotty Thiel.
“It was a good opportunity to race, but we were trying to help them with their program as well,” he said. “We made improvements all weekend. It was good to get out there and race somewhere away from home again. It was a track I’d never been to so it was cool to see a new place and race a new car.”
Starks opened the Kubota High Limit Racing doubleheader on Friday by timing in eighth quickest in his group and placing fifth in a heat race to lock into the main event.
“It was the classic first night with a new team,” he said. “We had a lot of things to shake out. In hot laps we had some engine issues we had to get figured out. I felt our qualifying effort was pretty good for not getting many laps. We didn’t get a good start on the inside lane in the heat race and dropped back one row. And then in the feature we started toward the rear and were fighting some mechanical and comfort issues so I felt it was best to cut our losses and work on it for the next day.”
Saturday showcased a better outing at the end of the night for Starks, who timed in 10th quickest in his group and finished sixth in a heat race. He advanced a pair of positions to end third in the B Main, transferring into the back of the main event. Starks continued to march forward throughout the A Main as he hustled from 23rd to 15th – the third-most positions gained.
“We were off just a little bit in qualifying,” he said. “We didn’t transfer through the heat, but I was okay with getting more laps. We worked our way into third in the B Main and I felt pretty good. We were able to work our way to 15th in the feature. We gained a couple of spots with crashes, but we passed several cars as well. I felt a lot more comfortable than I did on Friday.”
Starks is hopping in another new car this weekend when he will drive for Rudeen Racing during the famed Trophy Cup. Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., hosts the marquee event Thursday through Saturday. Starks hasn’t competed at the event since 2017.
“This is a one-off event and it’s hard to turn down an opportunity to drive for Kevin Rudeen and his team,” he said. “It’s been a while since I’ve been to Trophy Cup. We’ve had some good runs there and some not so good runs. It’s a tough race where you have to be fast, have some luck and stay out of trouble the whole weekend. I feel confident going in because the last time I was at Thunderbowl Raceway I ran well so I’m pretty excited for it.”
